I recently lost one of my credit cards while at home. The wallet was missing too. A search was undertaken though with no results.
Suddenly,, it was noticed that my wallet was next to Owen on the dog bed. This fact appeared to be circumstantial evidence of his theft. The wallet was missing one credit card and Owen became the suspect of criminal mischief.

Shortly, the missing (and suspected eaten) credit card was located behind the cushion of the sofa where I had seemingly dropped it.
The charges against Owen were promptly dismissed.
In the words of the Checker Records song of 1958 by Bo Diddley…
“Before you accuse me, take a look at yourself”
