Queen Elizabeth II spoke to the United Kingdom (and so many others of us too) on Sunday in a rare speech, urging self-discipline and resolve in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. The queen, 93, acknowledged the grief and financial pain that Britons are enduring while also thanking health workers for their service and ordinary people for staying home.
“Together we are tackling this disease, and I want to reassure you that if we remain united and resolute, then we will overcome it.
“I hope in the years to come everyone will be able to take pride in how they responded to this challenge.
“And those who come after us will say the Britons of this generation were as strong as any.
“That the attributes of self-discipline, of quiet good-humoured resolve and of fellow-feeling still characterise this country.
“The pride in who we are is not a part of our past, it defines our present and our future.
“We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again.

I’ve never really known much about Queen Elizabeth and had no idea she had this ability to comfort and inspire. We can all benefit from her wisdom and leadership. I want to cultivate quiet good-humoured resolve.

You have a wonderful connection with the Queen through your Uncle. I think that we ALL can share a connection with her spirit through “fellow-feeling”.

I had an Uncle who was an Equerry to the Queen. Basically he worked for the Queen and rode in the Trooping of the Color and met people at airports and so on.When I was growing up there were a lot of things I overheard. So when I watched the Crown I knew that much of it was absolutely true. I am not a Royalist but I do admire this Queen . She is one hard working woman and I found her speech yesterday to be calm and reassuring and when she spoke of being able to look back and take pride in how you responded to this challenge it really resonated with me. I wish that more politicians, especially certain Presidents , could think of this. Anyway…enough from me. Thank you for this nice tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

She’s an interesting lady. We watched The Crown on Netflix and if it was anywhere near the truth, she had a difficult life balancing her personal needs, her husband and family and the responsibilities of the Crown.
