Geoffrey Chaucer used this phrase in his story, Troilus and Criseyde, published in 1374.

It appears that Gavin is not following Chaucer’s advice as he tries to encourage Jonah to move from bed.

By comparison, it seems Wyatt has resigned himself to nap without disturbing Jonah…and thus, “Let sleeping dogs lie.”
